Dragging Doctors into the Information Age

Wired Magazine reports that Congress is getting ready to act to put pressure on hospitals in update their current systems.

According to Wired: "Physicians can spend entire days without touching a keyboard, and nurses routinely track patients' progress through a series of handwritten notes passed from person to person."

This invariably lead to medical mistakes. "The government has finally realized ... unless it steps in ... many people will die because of the absence of reasonable computer systems in American health care," said Robert Wachter, professor of medicine at the University of California.

:: Solutions for Healthcare

Today's healthcare organizations must manage unprecedented amounts of patient information while being challenged to reduce cost. Paper and electronic documents of all types are created and captured at every interaction with patients and benefit providers.

Traditional patient record systems remain cumbersome to use, are missing capture tools, have limited search capabilities, and offer little to reduce related
administrative and operating costs. Often, they represent silos of information --
difficult to manage and expensive or impossible to integrate with other systems.

Healthcare providers have been left with very limited options...

  • Migrate every related health systems application and its contents to a single vendor's platform and its 'imaging' add-on; and accept operational limitations
  • Duplicate electronic records in multiple systems and implement security and auditing procedures separately for each
  • Replicate, doing things the old way while adding new procedures (printing,
copying, filing, delivering, scanning, etc.) to support the improvements
  • Do nothing

Except for 'Do Nothing'; these have been known to cost tens of millions of dollars,
and years of effort without delivering on the goal of reducing service costs and
improving the quality of patient service. [i.e. - No ROI]

Until Now

We can intelligently connect all of your clinical and backoffice applications to every
patient document (clinical and financial) for millions of dollars less than it might cost to upgrade and add a limited imaging and records management option to just one of the traditional EPR/EHR application suites.

BRT’s Content Management Solutions for Healthcare provide an open platform for
healthcare organizations to integrate existing clinical and financial data systems; and transform cumbersome file handling procedures into simple and familiar online
services.

Keep What Works Well, and We Will Enhance It

Your current and future data systems investments are protected, and all options remain available. We let you intelligently capture content of any format, from any system or user, and let it flow to the right people and systems effortlessly. A "content-enabled" community is created where all employees, patients, payers and providers can access relevant documents and value added services at any time, from anywhere.

There is no need to fix everything at once. All of our solution options can be considered independently and in any sequence that fits your plans. As we've said elsewhere, we want you to succeed early, and often.

Please, Take a Deeper Look

BRT HL7 Content Integrator — Quickly integrates HL7 CCOW compliant
systems such as EPIC, IDX, Lawson and others with EMC's content management software. Systems are automatically
coordinated and synchronized in clinically meaningful ways at the point-of-use with EMC Documentum's enterprise content management software -- providing instant and secure access to clinical and patient finance documents, without complex systems development.

BRT eForms Solutions — We encourage our clients to eliminate paper wherever
feasible to maximize efficiencies. After all, what value is there in printing a document in one department so that it can be faxed to another? Or so it can be scanned into a separate imaging or records system? (It does happen...)

Leveraging industry leading Adobe LiveCycle™ intelligent document technology,
electronic forms can be presented via the web or email, and feed data to existing
systems automatically through HL7 (or proprietary) data streams. Forms can even
be electronically signed and transmitted to providers and patients electronically while maintaining privacy.

BRT Image Capture Solutions — Paper and image capture will continue to be
important in the healthcare industry for years to come. We provide solutions from
the simple scanning of ID and insurance information at admissions time, to the
complex back office analysis and processing of EOB's and accounts receivable
documents.

We can recognize forms and extract information automatically, and release the data to any system you require, or several at once. If you have five or more full time employees doing data entry and image verification, we can save you money.

We can even show you how collection of 'wet' signatures on paper forms can be
accomplished without any manual indexing of images.

We know the issues that healthcare organizations have to deal with day in and day out. Fortunately, a good number of your concerns can now be resolved with the BRT's Content Solutions for Healthcare -- allowing you to efficiently consolidate and cross-relate information to comply with regulations and eliminate costly manual processing.
